Day 1 of 20 Mediterranean Adventure

We have had an eventful day.  All were up early to finish packing and meet our driver at 8:30 AM.   She was right on time in her nifty little Mercedes Van.  We quickly loaded all our gear and headed for the port.  Another Rome native driving like a crazy person---Francesca was no different as she navigated all the business traffic on our way out of the city.  She is a lso an official Rome tour guide so she gave us more information on all the sites we had seen on our tours.  Jerry clocked her going at least 130-160 km/hr which is 85-90mph as we hit the straight away on the highway to the port.

Regardless of the wild driving, we were so impressed with Francesca that we booked a private Night Tour of Rome with her upon our return in October. We are certain she will show us a fabulous time and will pick us up from our hotel.  We only wish we had found her for ALL our Rome tours.  Be sure to ask us fr her information if you are ever considering a visit to Rome.

Check in with Holland American went smoothly as we anticipated, and we were able to board by 11:30. Our cabins weren't ready, so we were sent to the Lido deck to wait.  Joyce made a quick turnabout and stumbled over both pieces of roll-on luggage and made a spectacular splash on the floor.  No damage done, but Lydia and Jerry were already on the elevator with the door closing, and they had no idea what had happened.  They went on to their cabin and together, we all spent the next 90 minutes trying to find each other.

We enjoyed out first meal onboard and relaxed out by the pool until time to go to our cabins.  Joyce was able to access the internet  ( for a hefty fee of course) and then couldn't figure out how to disconnect. 14 minutes and nearly $7,00 later, she was able to disconnect.  Needless to say, Joyce is drafting the entire blog offline and hopefully can upload it early in the morning or late at night when the time may go faster.  Photos with high resolution such as ours will take longer, so unfortunately we may have to limit our photos.  That is too bad as they are what make the blog interesting.
